The Trees Continued to Dance

A few days after Mother's Day I was walking in Stanley Park. My Mum used to spend the summers living on a boat in this marina. She practiced her Ballet along the docks in between trips up north to Indian Arm, Powell River and over to our relatives in Sayward.

One of the last times we took my her out for a walk was a sunny day in mid summer. I was determined that we would start to do more fun adventures in different parts of town. I couldn't remember which bench we sat on, she was getting frail and we didn't get far.

A few weeks later she became jaundiced and we discovered the tumour on her pancreas and then she died the day after her 81st Birthday.

When I sat down I noticed the inscription on the bench, "Ferns, Rose, Hollycocks tossed their heads crying Too soon, too soon!

But the Trees continued to dance"
